For scale, the largest Animals & Nature community we track is r/aww with 37,830,289 members — roughly 92 times the size of r/Pets. Reddit itself launched in 2005, so a subreddit created in 2008 sits in the early wave of community building on the platform. Subscriber counts indicate reach, not activity — a large community can be quiet, and a smaller one busy.
